PDP’s Waheed Para and Apni Party’s Mohammad Ashraf Mir File Nomination Papers for Srinagar Parliamentary Seat.
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party’s Waheed Para and Apni Party’s Mohammad Ashraf Mir have submitted their nomination papers for the Srinagar parliamentary seat. The polling for this seat is scheduled for May 13 in the 4th phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The nominations were filed in the office of the Deputy Electoral Officer and Returning Officer of Srinagar.
Waheed Para and Ashraf Mir were both part of PDP, but in 2020, on the day of the establishment of Apni Party, Ashraf Mir left PDP to support Altaf Bukhari.
The Srinagar parliamentary seat now includes four assembly seats from Pulwama district, one from Shopian, three from Budgam, and two from Ganderbal, with around 18 lakh voters in total. National Conference candidate Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi is also contesting from the same constituency but has not yet filed his nomination.
Political analysts suggest that there is a tough contest between the National Conference and the PDP for the Srinagar seat, with the Apni Party, led by former minister Altaf Bukhari, also making a strong bid. Both PDP and Apni Party candidates were accompanied by hundreds of workers when they submitted their nomination papers. The candidates expressed optimism, hoping that the voters will elect the best candidate to represent them in parliament.
