President’s Rule Lifted in Jammu & Kashmir, Paving Way for Government Formation

Srinagar Shaharbeen Times: In a significant development, the Government of India has officially lifted President’s Rule in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, following an order issued today. This move clears the path for the formation of a new government in the region, marking a major political shift since the revocation of Jammu & Kashmir’s special status in August 2019.

The decision is expected to set the stage for political parties in the Union Territory to explore alliances and form a government, providing new opportunities for local governance after years of central administration. President’s Rule had been in place since June 2018, following the dissolution of the coalition government led by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The lifting of President’s Rule has been welcomed by several political leaders in the region, who see it as a positive step towards restoring democratic processes and ensuring that local voices are represented in decision-making. The focus now shifts to the formation of a new government that will be responsible for addressing the region’s pressing issues, including economic development, security, and employment opportunities.
