According to West Bengal government authorities, at least 50 people were injured and rescued. According to accounts, ten people have been gravely hurt. The injured were taken to two hospitals: Jalpaiguri district hospital and Moynaguri government hospital. According to New Frontier Railway sources, the critical passengers would be transferred to the North Bengal Medical College in Siliguri.
According to Railway sources, several passengers are believed to be trapped inside the wrecked coaches, and gas cutters are being used to cut apart the mangled cars.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has stated that he is “personally watching” the situation and has informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the rescue efforts. “We will carry out all of our responsibilities,” he has stated.
