Why Kids Shouldn’t Use Adult Products
Share on FacebookShare on WhatsAppShare on TwitterShare on LinkedIn

By Akanksha Sharma, CEO and CO-Founder CITTA

Did you know a kid’s skin is 20x thinner and more sensitive than an adult’s? Yes, since their skin’s natural protective barrier is still in its developmental phase, it is less efficient at retaining moisture. This increased susceptibility to irritation, dehydration, and damage from environmental stressors emphasizes the need for specially formulated products for the precious ones’ skin and hair.

Now the question is why it is unsafe for kids to use adult products! Adult skin & hair care products often contain potent ingredients like sulfates, silicones, and phthalates that can be too harsh for a child’s delicate skin and hair. Ingredients like retinoids, salicylic acid, and strong fragrances can strip away natural oils, disrupt the skin’s pH balance, and cause allergies, rashes, or even chemical burns. Additionally, many adult products are designed to address specific age-related concerns, such as wrinkles, dark spots, pigmentation or acne, which are irrelevant to children.

For kids aged 5-10, it’s essential to choose products with gentle and natural, certified ingredients. Ingredients like almond oil, olive oil, basil oil, rice protein, aloe vera, coconut oil, shea butter, turmeric oil, and oats are nourishing and gentle on young skin and hair. These ingredients hydrate, protect, soothe, and help maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier, promoting healthy growth.

Children’s skin & hair care products are formulated to meet the unique needs of growing kids, providing gentle care without harsh chemicals. They contain milder ingredients, ensuring that kids’ skin remains protected and nourished. A child’s skin pH is naturally more acidic, around 5.5, acting as a barrier against harmful bacteria. Adult products can disrupt this balance, leading to dryness, itchiness, infections, or eczema. Besides, children’s hair is also different from adults’ – finer, more fragile, less porous, and lacking oil-producing capabilities. Adult hair products may strip their hair of natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle.

Therefore, when selecting skin & hair care products for kids, it’s best to steer clear of products that contain harsh chemicals like sulfates, talc, silicones, mineral oils, talc, parabens, and phthalates. These ingredients can irritate the skin and harm overall health.

Opt for products free from harmful additives to keep a child’s skin healthy and safe. CITTA, a premium baby bath & skincare brand, prioritizes using the highest quality natural ingredients while avoiding harsh chemicals. Their products are carefully formulated to cater to the unique needs of children’s skin and hair.
