Punjab Govt to Regularise Contractual Sanitation Workers, Announces Major Relief
Chandigarh, July 29: In a significant relief for sanitation workers, the Punjab government has decided to regularise the services of contractual sanitation workers who have completed five years of service.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the government has also approved bringing outsourced sanitation workers with at least three years of continuous service under direct contracts, a move aimed at improving job security and service conditions.
The announcement comes at a time when several unions of sanitation workers continue their strike, demanding regularisation and better employment benefits. The latest decision is expected to address some of the long-standing concerns raised by the workforce, though the response of the protesting unions remains to be seen.
