Kashmir police arrests two sons of Ashraf Sehrai in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 15, KDC: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday evening arrested two sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, Hurriyat Chairman who died at GMC Jammu hospital while facing detention under Public Safety Act (PSA) on May 5.

Family sources told News Agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that the two sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, who passed away after brief illness at GMC Jammu hospital during incarceration under Public Safety Act (PSA) on May 5 have been arrested from Bulbul bagh Barzulla residence in Srinagar.

They said a police party from Kupwara in assistance with Srinagar Police arrested Mujahid Sehrai and Rashid Sehrai, both sons of late Ashraf Sehrai, and took them to Kupwara.

Earlier, two close relatives of late Ashraf Sehrai were also arrested in connection with the same case, sources added

Local sources told KDC that both the sons of late Sehrai have been arrested in connection with a case registered against them on May 6 at the Police station Tekkipora-Sogam.

They said that while taking the body of Sehrai to Tekkipora-Sogam graveyard in Kupwara for burial on May 6, some people were found raising “pro-freedom and provocative slogans”. The video of the same had gone viral on social media. Accordingly a case was registered against 20 people found raising slogans, they added.

No police official was available for comments on the arrests made by Kupwara police in Srinagar.

Late Sehrai’s sons not booked under PSA, warns against spreading rumours: Police

Srinagar : Police on Sunday said that late Ashraf Sehrai son’s have not been booked under Public Safety Act as rumors being circulated on social media.

Taking to Twitter Kashmir Police zone wrote, “Both sons of Late Sehrai & 4 others have been arrested for raising antinational slogans during funeral. But, they haven’t been booked under PSA. Plz don’t spread rumour, ends the tweet.

Police replied to the tweet of former CM Mehbooba Mufti who had written on her Twitter that both sons of Late Sehrai were booked under PSA.
