Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Monday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to harnessing Jammu and Kashmir’s vast water resources to enhance energy production and strengthen the region’s financial and economic standing.
Addressing the Legislative Assembly, the LG emphasized that the energy sector in J&K is undergoing a major transformation, with efforts underway to fast-track key hydropower projects such as Pakal Dul, Kiru, Kwar, and Ratle, which will collectively add 3,014 MW of power. Additionally, new projects, including Dulhasti-II and Kirthai-I, are in the pipeline, positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a key player in renewable energy generation.
The LG highlighted that transmission capacity has already increased by 50% with the completion of 28 projects, while distribution capacity has seen a 40% boost through 194 completed projects. Furthermore, several Receiving and Grid Stations are nearing completion to minimize power losses and improve efficiency.
Seeking the support of the Government of India, LG Sinha stated that the administration aims to take a significant leap forward in the energy sector, ensuring that J&K’s hydropower potential is fully utilized for economic growth and the welfare of its people. [KNT]
