The Red Hills police have arrested three people for allegedly selling a baby to a couple in Andhra Pradesh. The baby was allegedly sold for a sum of Rs 3 lakh.

Child Welfare Committee official Lalitha received information about the sale of the baby. Based upon the complaint registered by Lalitha, police have registered a case against the four accused.

Vijayalakshmi, 30, of Kannagi Nagar, and her husband Chinndurai, 35, sold their ten-month-old infant Muthuraj owing to poverty, according to police. They handed over their baby to a woman broker, Thangam, who agreed to give the baby to a couple in Andhra Pradesh for Rs 85,000.

Later on, the couple demanded additional money but Thangam refused, citing that she was carrying out an illegal and difficult task.

Meanwhile, Thangam handed over the baby to Navaneetham and Pandurangan from Red Hills for Rs 3 lakh.

The infant was taken to Putlur, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Lalitha, a CWC officer who learned about the deal, filed a complaint with Red Hills police. She pleaded to the police so that they could save the baby, and a team was dispatched to Andhra Pradesh to look for it.
