Pakistan Election Crisis: PPP Proposes Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for PM Post in Talks with Nawaz Sharif.
As Pakistan’s national election has thrown up a fractured mandate, making way for the hung assembly, parties in the fray have been scrambling to chalk out the post-poll strategy to form the new government.
In the aftermath of Pakistan’s general elections, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has initiated discussions with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), currently led by Nawaz Sharif, seeking the prime ministerial position for its leader and former foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Despite securing the third position in the elections with 54 seats, trailing behind independents allied with Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at 95 seats and PML-N at 74 seats, PPP is leveraging its position by offering support to PML-N in forming a provincial government in Punjab in exchange for the coveted PM post. The outcome of these negotiations could significantly influence the political landscape of Pakistan in the coming days.
