NEW DELHI: In a late night development, Bulandshahr police booked Twitter
India managing director Manish Maheshwari under Section 505 (2) of IPC and Section 74 of the IT (Amendment) Act 2008 for showing a wrong map
of India on its website. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of a local lawyer, Bulandshahr SP Santosh Kumar Singh told TOI.
The error had appeared on the career section of Twitter’s website under the header ‘Tweep Life’.
This is not just another incident in a series of controversies the American micro-blogging giant finds itself in India, but is also the third time in the past few months when it has displayed a wrong map of India on its platform. It is expected that the IT ministry may issue a show-cause notice to the company for the fresh transgression, and may also recommend action. However, officials did not make a formal comment. On its part, Twitter officials did not answer queries on the matter, and even its spokespersons refused to take calls from the media.
